Hi Lee, just got around to reading this post and really appreciated some of your thoughts and advice. I'm intrigued by both of the books that you linked and will be reading them at some point in the future. Also, this makes me look forward to your summer reading club, a time when things slow down and we can just read and play with our kids. I hope you're planning to do this again! :)

I wish an older mom had said it to me. Yes, there are fine and wonderful programs out there. No, they aren’t right for every child and every family. Good for you for sticking to your gut about what’s right for your son.

Thank you for saying toddlers do not “need” MDO. I’m a SAHM and the pressure I have received from others to put my son in MDO has been ridiculous. We already attend gymnastics, kindermusic, swim and Library time. If he attended MDO we wouldn’t be able to use our zoo and arboretum memberships during the week and that is how I want “us” to spend his toddler years because they are over in a flash. I don’t fault anyone for wanting their toddler or baby in MDO, it’s the norm now but I a have become very irritated at this point hearing about how my son won’t be ready for prekindergarten. Can you feel my eyes rolling? He knows all his colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. He is two and runs up to children at the park, introduces himself and asks if they want to play. I can’t even do that at a cocktail party; )
