Here’s a helpful idea that has really lightened my load: we travel out of town (grandparents & weekend fun trips) as a family quite a bit. I have a mini dry-erase board that I write a packing list (6 socks, 2 PJs,etc). Our 8 & 11yo pack their own bags & I will quickly check their bags w my list! We are pretty casual, & kids really can do it! Has taken some practice, but they know now.We are out the door for a fun getaway & I feel less burdened on what I need to do to leave town!

We call them “responsibilities”. My boys are 3 and 5, and they feel so big taking on new responsibilities.

We purchased the chore chart and allowance system last year. It has been very successful for our kids! It has been wonderful to have our kids tidy their rooms before bed. They even clean the main living spaces. My daughter lives to vacuum and thanks to monkey see, monkey do my son does too! I think you’re so right about kids wanting to help, but parents struggling to be patient and show them the way. That is the hardest part for me, but I’ve seen firsthand how teaching them something helps greatly down the road. Even if it takes a few extra minutes while they are learning. I always enjoy reading these posts!
