Offering to do the baby’s laundry is also a huge help that most people don’t think about. Some things to avoid are saying “Enjoy your rest while you can.” That was said to me many times, but having a baby in the NICU was way more exhausting for me than having a newborn at home. Reconsider asking to visit once home as well. My son was in the NICU three weeks, so I only had three weeks at home with him before I had to return to work. The last thing I wanted to do during that precious time was entertain visitors, no matter how well-intentioned their visits.
